Slow XP Computer Problems - Fix Them Today For Free!
Author: Kel. Purden
Computers are man-made machines. Because man is prone to error, it naturally follows that the things he makes also have the tendency to encounter faults in the system. While computers these days are more technologically advanced, they are still not perfect and thus still not free from flaws, including slow computer XP problems. In fact, it is because of the fact that computers are now more complex than ever that they are more likely to experience system errors.
There are many possible reasons why slow computer problems may occur. In general, these problems are attributed to the natural process of aging that even computers, which are non-living things, go through. Thus, with time, wear and tear can cause the gradual deterioration of any computer and the programs that run it, including the globally popular Windows XP. Specifically speaking, however, there are a number of factors that contribute to the wearing and tearing of a Windows XP computer. A slow running computer can be annoying and frustrating, which is why it is of utmost importance that the causes of the slowdown be fixed right away. The good news is, you don't have to spend anything for computer repairs - you can do them all on your own.
If you have a computer and are experiencing slow computer XP problems, one of the most basic things you should do to is to take a look at your folder for currently existing temporary files. This is the folder that contains your Internet browser's history and cache, that part of a computer where websites or web pages are each stored as individual files. When your temporary files folder gets full, your computer encounters difficulty in organizing the files it holds. It is vital to the recovery of your computer that said folder be emptied as soon as possible, and this should be observed on a regular basis - just as you should do with your recycling bin. Remember, just because you delete a file - a program or an application - doesn't mean it's no longer in your computer system; it is only actually transferred into the recycling bin. To permanently get rid of unwanted and unnecessary files that can cause slow computer XP problems, empty your recycling bin regularly.
Another area of your computer that you should check to solve your slow computer XP problems is your start-up menu. There are programs that, when installed into a computer system, have the ability to be run directly upon start-up. This option is in fact present in most programs that are being used and developed these days. To help your computer regain its original speed, delete said option of programs so that they won't have to be run right after you turn on your computer - because this wreaks confusion in your computer system. In line with this, avoid clicking on programs when your computer has just powered up. Wait for your computer to complete its start-up process before opening any programs or typing in further instructions.
These simple tips are enough to remedy your slow computer XP problems with no charge at all. For best results, experts recommend getting software that cleans up the registry in order to keep slowdown troubles at bay for a long, long time.

I recently performed a disk clean, to free up some space. and now that i have restarted it its asking me to reactivate it! so, i called the automated service and gave it my product id. and it keeps telling me that there is something wrong with it! the sticker on the side is missing, and i have no idea where the disk is. Can anyone help me?
its not pirated!
Please help!! Computer keeps freezing at Windows XP logo/boot screen during start-up! What to do?
HELLLPPP! Please disregard the length of this post. It’s for a good cause. ty.
I own a Gateway 831 GM PC with Windows XP Media Center Edition SP 2.
The problem is that I cannot turn on my computer anymore as it keeps getting stuck at the boot screen/ Windows XP logo with the loading bar going from left to right beneath it. It presumes to load for a few seconds and then stops in the middle and freezes altogether. It would probably stay that way for months if I let it. I have to manually hold down the power button to turn it off.
I have tried everything I can think of:
Virus scans from updated Malwarebytes and AVG come out clean.
Did a Disk Defragmeantation two days ago.
Did a Chkdsk, but as my computer restarted after its completion, it froze at that screen.
Chose “Last known configuration that worked” from the F8 menu. As it restarted, it got stuck at the boot screen.
Did a System Restore, which maybe restored successfully but did not solve the problem as when it restarted the computer upon completion, the computer, you guessed it, froze at that blasted screen!!!
I am lucky to be here under safe mode, which is the only thing that works, that is, IF my computer doesn’t freeze. Now, I can’t seem to find any hardware change that may have caused this. And the system (C:, D: drives) itself is “healthy” according to computer management. I still have a lot of free space.
Note: I did not receive a Windows XP CD with the comp. I tried to make recovery discs after I bought it, but some error caused it to only create four out of the necessary five discs.
How do I fix this? What should I do? I’m not very tech savvy, so please lay it easy on me with the jargon. I really cannot afford a technician at the moment. THANKS a ton.
Maybe theres a problem with your CPU exhaust. maybe it is not working properly and ur CPU is heating up causing the PC to freeze. Contact some hardware expert. He will clean the fan at the back of the CPU or u can do it yourself if u have a vacuum cleaner.
what is the best free clean up download for windows vista or xp?
our computers are well slow, need free speed download
thanks
Try Ccleaner:
http://www.ccleaner.com/
CCleaner is a freeware system optimization, privacy and cleaning tool. It removes unused files from your system – allowing Windows to run faster and freeing up valuable hard disk space. It also cleans traces of your online activities such as your Internet history. Additionally it contains a fully featured registry cleaner. But the best part is that it’s fast (normally taking less than a second to run) and contains NO Spyware or Adware!
This free program offers more than enough features to make it a worthy download. CCleaner’s interface is logically designed and makes it easy to wipe away your tracks from Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera, and Google Chrome from various Windows system areas, and from some third-party applications.
CCleaner doesn’t support the large number of extraneous programs that some competitors do, but it can erase traces from such popular programs as Spybot – Search & Destroy and WinZip. CCleaner now offers secure file erasing along with a Registry-cleaning utility that quickly scans for invalid entries before removing them. CCleaner can even back up your Registry before removal, in case it accidentally removes a crucial component, and the download includes a rudimentary feature for uninstalling any program on your machine.
would I be able to install windows 95 on a computer that had xp before, but now…10 points!?
I have a used averatec 3700 laptop, and when I got it it had windows xp on it. Long story short it got a bad virus on it it and I purchased a cd that said it would just clear the hard drive of everything except xp. But turns out it cleared EVERYTHING off the hd, INCLUDING xp. All I know is I had the wiping cd in for about an hour, then I got scared and took the cd out, even though it was probably still in the process of wiping the hd. But when I turned the computer back on windows xp was erased off of the hd.
Anyhow, I can’t afford to purchase a new, or even used install of windows xp, and I have no way to download any “free” file version. So I purchased an ubuntu cd instead, which was much cheaper. I am not able to install ubuntu (I keep getting error messages or it simply will never end up installing), so now I have decided to just try a lower version of windows which I can get cheaper than windows xp. I see this windows 95 cd on ebay, and I just want to know if I will be able to install windows 95 correctly onto my clean hd without any issues. For instance windows 95 uses a FAT file system, but xp uses NTFS. I don’t know if this would make any difference or if there could or would be any other hardware inconsistencies, and I don’t want to purchase YET another OS only to have it be unable to install for whatever unknown reason.
So question is: does anyone know for sure if this windows 95 will install correctly onto any given laptop, or can you give some insight into why it may or may not probably work? Note I have 1gb ram and 120gb hd:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Windows-95-Full-Install-USB-Support-setup-Disk-/110568348979?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0
I would just like to have an idea, because I have spent 5 months and $30+ just trying to get my computer fixed and I have had to rely solely on public computers the entire time.
You could try 98 instead of 95. At least 98 has more compatibility with drivers and has usb support.
Or install 95 and then try installing ubuntu again. If that doesn’t work put 98 or go for another linux distro.
I just put in Windows XP and my computer is so slow.?
I initially had Windows Me. I bought a used computer with XP installed on it. I have tried everything I can think of to speed my PC up, but have had no luck. When I type an email, or use “chat”, my PC can’t even keep up with my typing. Going from one site to another is just ridiculous. I have downloaded programs to clean up XP, but at the end, you always have to pay to correct any errors. I need something for free. Does anyone have any ideas how I can speed up XP?
Go to My Computer and right click on the C drive
Properties
Click the box for Error checking
Reboot
Next run Ccleaner http://www.ccleaner.com
Defrag the drive
Then you should scan for malware http://malwarebytes.org
If it is still slow then run System File Checker
Open an elevated command prompt.
To do this, click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Allow.
Type the following command, and then press ENTER:
sfc /scannow

Rebooting Windows XP Computer without Reboot Disk?
My Windows XP Vaio Laptop Computer had broken down earlier last year and now I’m trying to fix it myself at home. When I turn it on, it has the Vaio loading screen and then it goes to a screen that says,
“INF file txtsetup.sif is corrupt or missing, status 51242.
Setup cannot continue. Press any key to exit.”
I press something and it just happens again and again.
I would like to know if there is any REBOOT software that will reboot my computer that i can download on the internet for free so that it can just CLEAN my whole computer to where it’s like brand new. I dont want to buy the CD. Please if there is anyone who can help me, it would be much appreciated. Thank you very much!
reboot means re start press Alt + Ctrl + Del to re boot. if you means re installing windows you have to format and install windows you can’t down load it or borrow it if you did it will install but you can’t activate it and that means it will work for thirty days and stops you have no choice but buying windows.
How do i reformat my windows xp partition without the installation disk for free?
just a side note.. im not a total noob when it comes to this stuff. but im not an expert either… lets start..
i got a virus a couple weeks ago on my computer. i struggled to get rid of it for 3 days straight. no matter what i tried nothing would work. i cant boot into safe mode, because it brings me to an error screen. i cant run regedit to delete specific files from the virus. cant install new programs. blah blah blah the list goes on.
i obtained a seperate hardrive from an old pc i had laying around 40 gigs. i installed ubuntu onto it so i now boot into this. i have been trying many things to get rid of the virus but im tired of the hassle. so i copied my important documents from first hardrive onto hardrive with ubuntu as a back up. so now what i want to do is reformat the windows partition. i want a clean slate. i want to run windows like as if i justtt purchased the computer. (along with the ubuntu
so the question i have is.. since i dont have a copy of the installation cd, how to i go about this? i dont want to purchase anything or call anybody. is there a way i can get a copy of the installation disk some other way. maybe without having to enter the 25 digit serial. or possibly with a free serial code.. something? help is much appreciated!
Get a hold of the manufacturer of the computer and see if they can supply you with a REPLACEMENT disk for your particular computer.
You say you are not a noob, but don’t realize that getting anything from MS for free is impossible unless you do it ILLEGALLY????????
In addition to which, have you tried cleaning up that Windows partition with an online scanner such as the one that F-Secure offers? If not, you can try the F-Secure scanner here:
http://www.f-secure.com/en_EMEA/security/security-lab/tools-and-services/online-scanner/index.html
That just MAY help save you the hassle of having to do a re-install.
Good Luck!

(Windows XP Pro) NTLDR at boot corrupted, creating a chain reaction Please help?
Hello fellow Geeks,
Saterday I went to start my computer (Dell Xps Gen 4) and during boot Dos
text informed I had an important NTLDR missing. I could do nothing but restart my system.
I tracked down some information on how to fix the NTLDR file. I popped my windows xp
pro cd into my cd rom drive and booted from there. I was planning on installing the OS all
over again, but I noticed a repair option. Luckly after it repaired my system, I was able to
keep most of my programs etc. I make this sound easy but it was like a 6 hour job biggrin.gif.
Now I’m am trying to get my PC back to the way it was before the NTLDR missing issue and my pc wants to
install “Security Update for Windows XP (KB956744)” I downloaded and I have the yellow shield icon in my
right hand tray. But they will not install. I attempt to install, it proceeds, it closes. Then pops right
back up saying I need to install them again. I ran a complete scan with Anti-Spyware and Malware
Megabytes in safe mode and they did not find any infections. I ran the windows clean up
utility and still no luck. I ran dial a fix and it states so files like jesetup.dll, imgutil.dll,
inseng.dll, mshtml.dll, msrating.dll, and many more were corrupt in my System32 folder.
I downloaded the security pack from Microsoft administrator’s options where you can personally get the file
your looking for. It said it installed successfully. But I’m still getting the installer icon.
I also tried a clean boot, Msconfig>disabled all 3rd party services except my Nvidia driver service. I also
tried a programs called Tune up utlities 09 it has a disk doctor. Pretty much the same thing as Window check
disk. Still to o avail. I think I need those corrupted files in my system32. But I didn’t want to go
downloading the .dll files not knowing what is correct or compatible. I’m so stuck
I have no clue what I’m am to do to fix this?
Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated,

No Sound – Emachine W3118 after formatting with Windows XP?
I just recently wiped my computer clean with a Windows XP SP2 CD which wasn’t meant for this computer so it didn’t come with the proper drivers for eveything. I had to download the driver for my motherboard from another computer to this one just to get internet, but I can’t figure out what driver I need to get the sound back among other things. So my questions are:
1.Does anyone know of any free programs that can detect hardware and if they need driver updates and where to get them or download them for you?
2.Does anyone know what driver I need to fix it without a program?
3.Do you think it is even a driver problem and how do I fix it then?
Register Cleaner for my computer (Free)?
First of all, let me explain that I am flat broke right n ow.
I noticed that I’m having great difficulty loading most pages, but my Yahoo face page will load okay. Any media I want to watch takes seemingly forever to load…if at all.
This has started in the last 24 hours — severely.
I downloaded CCleaner. It allows for approximately 25 items to be cleaned. I have some 1300 errors or so. Dont know if that’s a huge amount or not. But CCleaner isnt going to do it.
Do any of you know a way that I can fix this otherwise? Again, I have no money to do this and I am a little IT challenged.
I do have Windows XP and I do use Firefox
Thank you in advance
Ccleaner is, as Tech says, free. I have used it and it cleans everything, not just a limit of 25 items. If you didn’t download it from http://ccleaner.com then treat the site you got it from as suspect; perhaps they “nobbled” Ccleaner or put their own code into it. Check the site’s reputation by putting the address into the search bar at both these sites:
http://mywot.com/ – ratings at the top and comments at the bottom.
http://siteadvisor.com/ – read user comments here, not just the McAfee rating at the top.
If the site you got it from has a good reputation, then something must have gone wrong. Uninstall and reinstall but get it from Ccleaner themselves this time. Make sure ALL items are ticked that you want fixed. (I think you can right click on any of them and choose “Select all” if you are registry cleaning.)
There is a possibility that it’s malware causing the problem. If you don’t know what’s there, this guide is quite thorough:
http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=35407
Something else you could try is to run the System File Checker. I’m more inclined to think malware. However, this is how to do it:
Press and hold the Windows key (on the keyboard) and while still holding it, press the R and then release both.
In the text box type this:
sfc /scannow
(That’s a space between c and / and a double ‘n’ in the second part.)
Click OK.
This could take a few minutes to over an hour and you might be asked for you Windows disk.
If you don’t get it sorted out, pick a reputable computer forum and ask for more help. There are some trusty ones in my profile.

best cleaning program for windows xp professional?
i’m planning on selling my computer to my friends friend, but i have a lot of information on my hard drive, like banking information, every time i make a transaction i use the internet, when i make my income tax,not just my information ,also my family’s,you might think just keep the hard drive, but i’m gonna buy another one,one that has 150 gigabyte, because i’m not the only one that uses it,anyways i was reading a little on the internet and i found this program called
Active@ Kill Disk – Hard Drive Eraser ,but my question is,is it the best program to wipe out, clean or whatever the word in so nobody can get that information back from your hard drive, because i heard that formating your hard drive does nothing, i do’t know where the hard drive is gonna end up in a couple of years, so i really think it would be really useful not just for me,it’d be useful for all the people who want to to this,if there is a free program that can do this ,if not you can suggest me to buy one.
Once you are ready to fry your drive, goto http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/ and download their program. One of the utilities will format to DoD standards.
I want to delete everything on my computer and start new.do i need a windows XP CD? How do i do it?HELP!?
I want to totally delete everything and start out fresh. My computer is loaded with millions of folders of crap and I don’t want to sort through everything and clean out the ones I dont need, it would take years!
So how do I totally delete everything myself, for free? Do I need a CD? I don’t have any CD’s..
please help!
Oh- I dont know where the CD that came with the computer is.
You do need a CD if you wish to delete (and the stuff is still there just not viewable to you, when you delete something even through formatting it’s still there until over written for that I would recommend KillDisk’s free Zero overwrite..) But yes you require a windows boot CD to boot up format the drive and reinstall windows freshly (I would then download the tool called Eraser and run “erase unused diskspace 7 passes” that way everything that used to be there is gone for good. And it is truly a clean slate.
Good luck and e-mail if you have any questions or problems.
Also if you paid for your windows and have the CD KEY for it on the PC some where you can I believe contact microsoft and they will re issue a CD for you.
What software comes with windows xp home full version ?
I had to reinstall windows xp home. because what was on my computer from the factory was corrupted. but after i did a clean install there is nothing but windows I had pc doctor and Microsoft works 8, sonic Microsoft office and at least a hundred other programs.
If windows xp doesn’t come with anything. then where can i at least get pc doctor and work 8 for free?
I think you are screwed, When you formated your computer to reinstall Windows XP, you lost everything and I mean everything. It seems that you did not make any backups at all.
You want PC Doctor and microsoft works 8. You will hve to purchase those, because they do not come free.
